A God in heaven who reveals mysteries.

I felt led of the Lord to begin reading through the entire book of Daniel this weekend.  I came to this familiar story of Daniel’s interpretation of the King’s Dream.  I was so struck by Daniel’s candid and honest assessment of the situation, himself, and God.  Here’s the context:

26 The king said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, “Are you able to make known to me the dream which I have seen and its interpretation?” 27 Daniel answered before the king and said, “As for the mystery about which the king has inquired, neither wise men, conjurers, magicians nor diviners are able to declare it to the king. 28 However, there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will take place in the latter days. This was your dream and the visions in your mind while on your bed. 29 As for you, O king, while on your bed, your thoughts turned to what would take place in the future; and He who reveals mysteries has made known to you what will take place. 30 But as for me, this mystery has not been revealed to me for any wisdom residing in me more than in any other living man, but for the purpose of making the interpretation known to the king, and that you may understand the thoughts of your mind. (Daniel 2:26-30 NASB)

1) Daniel declares the inability of any human being to declare the dream of the King.

2) He declares that God in Heaven, alone, can reveal mysteries.

3) He declares that God is revealing to the King what He is about to do

4) He humbly admits that his own ability to interpret the dream does not come from himself, but from God.  He humbly reveals that he, Daniel, is a mere vessel being used by God to make the interpretation known to the King so He could understand what God is about to do.

Wow! Lord Jesus, make me like Daniel.  Make us all as honest, humble and brave as Daniel.  He trusted God in the midst of an extremely dangerous situation.  He stepped forward with full faith in both God’s ability, and His desire to make the matter known.  He put his own life on the line to stand in the gap of life and death for many.

Lord Jesus, grant us this kind of faith.  It all starts with a relationship with you, and continues with knowing you more and more, deeper and deeper. We come to know You through Your Word, and through our experiences with You.
Precious Father, You have never failed me.  I may not have understood what you were doing sometimes, but You have always been faithful to Your Promises.
Holy Spirit, increase our faith, and increase our love for God
Thank You, Dearest Lord, and give us all a strong measure of faith, even as You gave to Your servant, Daniel. You are truly the One and Only God in Heaven, the only One who can and does, reveal Mysteries to mankind.
