13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by people. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; 15 nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Your light must shine before people in such a way that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:13-16 NASB)
One of the most fascinating true stories is that of the Bronte’ sisters.
“The Bronte sisters were born in Thornton and later associated with the village of Haworth in the West Riding Hills of Yorkshire, England. Charlotte (1816-1855), Anne (1820-1849) and Emily (1818-1848), are all well-known poets and novelists. Like many contemporary female writers, they published their poems and novels under male pseudonyms: Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell. Their stories attracted attention for their passion and originality immediately following their publication. Charlotte’s Jane Eyre was the first to know success, while Emily’s Wuthering Heights, and Anne’s The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and other works were accepted as masterpieces of literature after their death. (1Brontë family – Wikipedia)
Their story is dramatically shared in the Masterpiece Theatre series entitled To Walk Invisible. I highly recommend it. Their lives were lived in obscurity, but they accomplished great things as they walked invisible to the world. Jane Eyre is so inspirational as a story on resisting temptation and waiting on God’s timing in romantic relationships. We truly never know the impact we have on all of those who encounter us throughout our lives. We too walk invisible. In the call of Jesus to be Salt and Light, we are told to sprinkle the flavor of Jesus everywhere we go. We are told to let the Light of Jesus shine forth from our lives in such a way that HE gets all the glory, not ourselves.
It has taken me a long time to realize the power found in this principle of Walking Invisible, so that others see Jesus and not me. I will never master this discipline until I am at Home in Heaven with Jesus. But by His grace, I will continue to grow in this joy-filled walk with Christ, where I touch many lives.
Beloved Believers, yield to this grace under the care of Jesus. Don’t be concerned with making your mark upon the world, be consumed with leaving His Mark everywhere you go. God promises Joshua this after the death of Moses:
Now it came about after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ servant, saying, 2 “Moses My servant is dead; so now arise, cross this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them, to the sons of Israel. 3 Every place on which the sole of your foot steps, I have given it to you, just as I spoke to Moses. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon, even as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and as far as the Great Sea toward the setting of the sun will be your territory. 5 No one will be able to oppose you all the days of your life. Just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not desert you nor abandon you. (Joshua 1:1-5 NASB)
Let us pray that the Lord will give us every place on which we set our feet as well. We wait with joy-filled expectation to see the results of surrendering everything we do to Jesus, trusting His ability to bear fruit through us.
