And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth. (Exodus 34:6 NASB)
During Lent it has been my habit to give up things. This year I chose to give up Word Search and Solitaire on my tablet. I have been drawn to get to know the Lord better through spending more time with Him. This desire reminded me of a song from the wonderful musical THE KING AND I
starring Deborah Karr and Yul Brenner.
“Getting to know you, getting to know all about you When I am with you getting to know what to say…
Because of all the beautiful and new things I’m learning about you, Day by day.”
(Getting to know you: Rodgers and Hammerstein)
Using the book, THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE HOLY, written by: A.W. Tozer, which goes deep into God’s character and attributes, I have been encouraged in both my walk with God and my prayer life.
Such a joy to spend more time in His presence.
It’s astounding, amazing and astonishing to find that as you go deeper into the Word of God, you discover so much more about the personal nature and the love God truly has for each one of us. God is Love. He can’t—not Love. It is who He is. (1 John 4)
So now. whenever I hear or sing this song I will think about God. I will smile inwardly as it brings joy to my heart. I will meditate on my newfound knowledge of the depths of the Love He has for us. I will be doing this study beyond the Season of Lent, and I highly recommend it for getting to know our marvelous God.
“You, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled to all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:17b-19 NASB)
