That Double Rainbow

By: Carole L. Haines

In our difficult times, we need to lean into the promises of God more than ever. We are weak and vulnerable during times of struggle, and God’s promises are what strengthen us. Promises like:

  • Nothing can separate us from God. (Romans 8:35)
  • God will never leave us or forsake us (Deut. 31:6, Hebrews 13:5)
  • God works everything for our good (Romans 8:28)
  • You are made new in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17)
  • God is the stability of our times (Isaiah 33:6)
  • God will finish the good work He has begun in you (Phil. 1:6)
  • God comforts us and makes us comforters (2 Cor. 4-5)

One morning as I was driving along and starting to cry over a difficulty I was facing, the sky was slowly turning red, and a drizzle was falling. The outside world was beginning to match what I was feeling inside, almost as if the heavens were crying with me. But as the sun broke through the clouds and drizzle, I thought maybe God will give me a Sunrise Rainbow, that would be so amazing. I bet those are rare.
As the Sunrise progressed, I saw my rainbow, but being at my job, which includes driving, I couldn’t stop the vehicle, I had no way to take a picture. Yet God’s kindness to me was so obvious and so kind.

I call these times Kisses from God Moments. It’s like God is saying, ‘I see You, My child. You are always before Me, and I am watching over you as you navigate this difficulty. Our tears and struggles are precious to God, as expressed in the verse below:
You have taken account of my miseries;
Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book?
Then my enemies will turn back on the day when I call;
This I know, that God is for me.
10 In God, whose word I praise, In the Lord, whose word I praise,
11 In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid.
What can mankind do to me? (Psalm 56:8-11 NASB)

Aah, yes indeed, This I know, that God is for me. When I got off work that day and opened my phone messages, my son, Cody, had seen that very same rainbow and he had taken four pictures of it, sending them to me.

That rainbow was not just for me, there were many others who looked up into the sky that morning, silently praying to God for a breakthrough, for hope in their own situations. Not only had God given us a rainbow that morning, but it was also a double rainbow. A double rainbow at Sunrise, WOW! I bet there were so many people who were struggling that morning who saw that rainbow, even as Cody and I had, and were reminded of just how faithful our Promise-keeping God truly is.
