When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have set in place;
What is man that You think of him,
And a son of man that You are concerned about him?
(Psalm 8:3-4 NASB)
Why in the Universe does God love me? Why is He concerned about my life? As I was sitting before the Lord this morning, He began to open my heart to truths coming from the passage I was reading. My heart became overwhelmed with gratitude for the God who would stoop to open my tiny human mind to understand Him better, to know Him more.
The story I was reading is one of my favorite Bible stories, with one of my favorite characters; so, it’s an oft read passage. Yet as many times as I have read this, He was showing me new things, beautiful truths I hadn’t seen before, and deepening the truths that I had seen in past.
Tears began to well up in my eyes thinking about this God who lets us go our own way yet waits on the front porch looking for us. Like the Father in the story of the Prodigal Son, He loves us enough to releases us to go yet waits with open arms to receive us back. (Luke 15)
As Jesus leaves the ninety-nine sheep to go after the one who has strayed, even so God pursues us. (Matthew 18) I am dumbfounded with awe at His Amazing Grace and Kindness toward us who believe. The music of Casting Crowns puts it this way:
Who am I, that the Lord of all the earth
Would care to know my name, would care to feel my hurt?
Who am I, that the Bright and Morning Star
Would choose to light the way for my ever-wandering heart?
(Song: Who am I? by: CASTING CROWNS)
God hid Moses in the cleft of the Rock and passed by Him declaring this:
And the Lord descended in the cloud and stood there with him as he called upon the name of the Lord. 6 Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in faithfulness and truth. (Exodus 34:5-6)
Thank you, Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit for seeking us, loving is, finding us and bringing us home to Yourself. Our hearts will always marvel and wonder at such a love as this.
