The Tale of Wildflowers

By: Carole L. Haines

30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? 31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. (Matthew 6:30-33 NLT)

Jesus tells us the tale of wildflowers right here in this verse, and my husband, Bruce, calls me his “Wildflower.” So, when I came across this passage this morning, it struck home. I just recently had to leave my job because of health issues, and I am now about to begin a search for a less physically demanding job. I am getting older and need something that can make use of my mind, which is still as young as ever, but my knees are disagreeing with that stance.
However, as I begin my job search, I can now remind myself that since God cares so wonderfully for nature’s wildflowers, which are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, He will certainly care for me and provide the job I need, and it will suit me just perfectly.
I have to admit, Jesus has had to say to me quite a bit since I left my job, “Why do you have so little faith? Don’t worry about these things, Carole, your Heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness and He will give you everything you need;” including a new job.

All of my objections, “But who’s gonna wanna hire a 60+ year old?”
“But what about these physical limitations?”
“Where do I even begin to start looking?”

The Lord gave me a favorite Psalm many years ago that I have memorized and worn out as a white flag of surrender in times such as these.

O Lord, my heart is not proud, nor are my eyes haughty
Nor do I involve myself in great matters or things too difficult for me
Surely, I have composed and quieted my soul
like a weaned child rest against its mother

My soul is like a weaned child within me
O Israel, Hope in the Lord, from this time forth and forevermore.
(Psalm 133)

If memory serves me correctly, that is NASB, just quoting it from memory. A weaned child can rest against his/her mother without looking for anything, just resting in her company and enjoying the safety of her arms. That is what I am seeking to do in this time of uncertainty. I’ve got to tell you, it is not an easy thing to do. But worrying will not lead me to the right job for me. Seeking God and trusting His direction will. Please pray for me as you read this. I would truly appreciate it. I will let you know How God comes through in this search, and I know He will. God bless you all.
