I study the Word of God a lot, and it’s wonderful. But nothing can compare with communing with God. There is such a big difference to me. When I am studying, I am wanting to know more things about God. When I am communing, I just want to be near Him. I want to hear His voice, sense His presence. Communing enables me to see as He sees. I see people through His eyes, not my eyes of fear, prejudice or self-righteousness. I see that we truly all stand on level ground before Him. Jesus is the great leveler. “There is no partiality with God.” (Romans 2:11)
One great example in scripture of how God teaches us that He has no partiality is found in Acts 10. This is the story of how God spoke to a man named Cornelius and told him to go and find Peter. Knowing that Peter still had prejudice in his heart about Gentiles, God prepares Peter for Cornelius’s arrival with a vision.
Verse nine tells us, “On the next day, while Cornelius was on his way and approaching the city, Peter went up on the housetop, about the sixth hour, to pray. But he became hungry and was desiring to eat, while they were making preparations, Peter fell into a trance and,,,” (Read all of Romans 10, it is a truly wonderful story ) Basically, God uses the instrument of Peter’s hunger to point out his prejudice, so that he is open enough to receive what God is doing in Cornelius’ life, and that of his family.
God is the same yesterday, today and forever. So we too, must sit before Him in the Word of God and be taught of Him and His ways. Communing with God is the stuff of life. There is a wonderful song that we have sung in worship at church and it goes like this.
this is the air I breathe, Your Holy presence, living in me
This is my daily bread, Your very Word spoken to me
Perhaps you sing it too. I always personalize it, yep, even in corporate worship,
and sing out You are the air I breathe, You are my daily Bread…
and He is. I can’t imagine waking up and God not being there. He is always there.
I don’t know why I don’t show up sometimes, but I don’t. I experience such emptiness when I don’t choose Him first in everything. I love Him so much, but even more than that, I am fully convinced of His love for me, for us, for all mankind. God desires none to perish, but all to come to eternal life (2 Peter 3:9)
When I commune with Him each day, I become more like Him. Oh precious God, make me more and more like You. Thank You that you that You are always there. Help me to always show up, even more often than I do now. Teach me to love You, body soul and spirit. As I see with Your eyes and Hear what You say, I am filled up with love, and that love overflows to others. I love You God, You are so wonderful, even when life is not.
‘TO SEE OTHERS AS HE SEES THEM’ —-IF SOMEHOW WE COULD ONLY HAVE THAT FLASHING IN THE FOREGROUND OF OUR LINE OF SIGHT EACH DAY. !!! ESPECIALLY FOR OUR ‘DIFFICULT PEOPLE’ — THOSE WHO WE FEEL WE WANT TO TURN AND RUN THE OTHER WAY WHEN WE SEE THEM. GIVE US YOUR HEART FOR THEM AND OTHERS YOU BRING INTO OUR LIVES EACH DAY.
