True Love is God
a poem by: carole l. haines
the world somehow seems discolored, yellowed,
like an aged photograph,
hardened, tough,like day-old bread.
What dimmed its beauty, what stole its color?
wear and tear, passing time
who can say? But it’s different now, it is different
and I can never go back to seeing things the way I used to
Even if the world has not changed all that much…I have.
And would I want to have it back the way it was? Would I really?
Perhaps ignorance is not bliss, perhaps it’s just ignorance.
Perhaps not knowing is worse, than seeing with real eyes
Having all the glitz and glamour ripped away, like a curtain
Like that veil torn in two from top to bottom, two thousand years ago
and that violent death, that horrible, violent death.
Why did it have to be so gruesome, so brutal?
Perhaps, because our sin was so gruesome in the eyes of God.
And that is why the world has yellowed, faded, lost its shine
because it committed murder, it killed the Son of God
It always wanted to be God, and so it had to kill God,
but the world didn’t count on the Resurrection,
It didn’t count on the Rising Up, of the True and Living Way
When the World killed Christ, they thought it was the end
but it was just the beginning, the beginning of the true story
His Story, My Story, Your Story, Our Story
The World was no longer the center of attention, no longer the draw it once was
For since the foundation of the world, it was known, it was foreseen
That this Precious God, who knew we’d fail, knew we’d falter
This same God created the world, and us in it, knowing it would cost His life
but love does this, doesn’t it? True Love does anyway.
True Love always comes with sacrifice. And so now the world knows
Now the world can finally see what true love really is.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son
that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life.
True Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things,
endures all things. True Love never fails.” True Love is God.
