The pathway of Kings

18 “Now it shall come about when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself a copy of this law on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests. 19 It shall be with him and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, by carefully observing all the words of this law and these statutes, 20 that his heart may not be lifted up above his countrymen and that he may not turn aside from the commandment, to the right or the left, so that he and his sons may continue long in his kingdom in the midst of Israel.

This is the declaration for Kings; to write out the entire book of the Law and keep that copy with him all the days of his life, and read it daily.  I have found that the act of writing out Scripture, in my journal or on notecards, is a very helpful tool in remembering.  I think that the process of hand-writing, slows down our thought processes and gives us time to actually ingest what we are reading.  When I am doing a Bible Study and I’m asked to read a verse and answer a question, I usually write out the verse right there on the answer sheet.  This allows me to slowly think on the verse and discern what it is actually saying.  It is amazing the nuances you can see when writing something by hand, as opposed to just reading it.  So many time, Scriptural gems have come to light for me just in the discipline of writing out Scripture.  Like an Ocean wave washing in and retreating back, revealing shells and polished stones; the process of writing reveals hidden Scriptural gems before our eyes. I also believe this helps in our desire to memorize Scripture as well.   The Word of God is the only source of true wisdom, pure joy and deepest peace.  I have found my home in The Word of God.  I have found my rest and peace in The Word of God.  There have been times in the middle of the night, when my battle with anxiety was its fiercest, that I would just reach next to my bed and pull my Bible close to my chest and hold it tight.  The Reminder of His Promises and faithfulness, would enable me to fall back asleep.  So let us follow the pathway of the Kings.  Let us write out The Word of God at every opportunity.  Let us slowly ingest its every flavor, its every nuance and color.  Let us write it out…and Remember.  Let us remember just how wonderful our Precious God really is.
