We are drowning in our own history. We have often heard that if we don’t learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it. This can be very true, and it is never more true than when we are tangled in a web of unforgiveness. I have seen people so determined to bleed every last drop of blood out of a situation that has gone wrong. “Well, they owe me an apology!” or perhaps, “Well, they started it.” Have you been there? I have, and I can tell you that there is no way to make things right on a human level. I believe this is why God says, “Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. (Romans 12:19)
We forget that we are powerless to affect change in anyone but ourselves. And the only true way to affect change in ourselves is to give ourselves to God, our Creator, Our Sustainer, Our Savior. We see in this verse that it is God who can work it all for good, not us. We are called in this verse, to believe that God loves us, and that He has a purpose for our lives, even all the pain. So let go of all those things others have done to you. Give these things into the hands of the only one who can do something about them, God. Give God your history and let Him make it into His-Story. I have done this, and the freedom that I walk in is absolutely unparalleled.
He is truly able to work all things together for good, He truly is. My story of loss, ruin, hurt, betrayal, brokenness and strife have been and continues to be rewritten in His-Story. Give Your life to the one who made You, and watch Him work His wonders. Go from drowning to soaring. It’s a long journey, but it is so incredibly freeing.
