My Morning Herald

13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.  (Romans 15)

I rarely wake up to the sound of an alarm clock.  With the weather getting warmer in the overnight hours, I left our windows open all night, for the first time this Season.  At exactly 5 a.m., I was gently roused from sleep by a Morning Herald.  The song changed with each breath the little bird took.  I realized from this that it was a Mockingbird.  I glanced at the clock, it was 5:03.  I thought perhaps I should close the windows, so the precious bird would not wake my hard-working husband, who needed his rest.  Being off from work today, I arose and closed the windows for him, by went outside, myself, and sat on the porch in the dark, just to listen.  The Glow of the Morning was just beginning behind the trees, and My Little Herald was singing away.  It gave me such a sense of joy and hope.

13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.  God’s word is a Herald to us every time we open it and spend time there listening to Him.  God is talking, He is speaking to us from His Word and through His Spirit every moment of every day.  Am I listening?  Are You?  God once led me to read a literary piece called “Tyranny of the Urgent,” in my younger years.  I couldn’t tell you who wrote it now, but its message has ever been with me.  There is always something for us to do.  Dishes, Laundry, Cleaning, Grocery Shopping, working, our children’s activities.  Tyranny of the Urgent, something always running through our minds, to the point of frenzy sometimes.  It is often only in the quiet pre-morning hours, just before the dawn breaks, that we can find the time to just Listen to the Spirit of God.  My Little Mockingbird roused me this morning to meet with God.  His Spirit spoke to me in His Word and I was refreshed with hope and peace.  Racing thoughts were there, but I laid them down at His feet, and I just kept listening to Him through His Word.  He is truly My Morning Herald.  Perhaps for others, God is a Midnight Song.  Either way, we need to Hear Him Speak.  It is the very food our Soul feeds upon to live.

God is My Morning Herald, I couldn’t live without His Voice, His Presence, His Love.  May You be blessed with freedom from the Tyranny of the Urgent.  I pray God will give each of you a Word of Hope, Peace and Blessing this Day,  or this Night and all the Rest of Your lives.  God is always speaking to us, the question is…Can we hear Him over all the other noise.  Come away with Him in the stillness…and just listen to Him Speak to your Heart.

13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Amen and Amen

  1. Isn’t it wonderful. The quiet we have here – and I imagine you have there in Woodstock.. Usually all I hear is an occasional plane flying over from SeaTac or the naval base on Whidbey Island and then sometimes on dreary days the delightful sound of the fog horn off ‘Admiralty Inlet. When I think of all the noise from Catonsville, Beltway, etc. It is amazing – the peace and quiet we have here. PRAISE GOD.!!!!!!!!!
