That Circle of Chairs

If we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:17)

Almost every day I drive past a house that has a circle of lawn chairs on their front lawn.  Each chair is a different color.  They are the wonderfully relaxing, Adirondack style chairs.  This circle looks so inviting, and I imagine people sitting in them, facing one another, laughing a lot, and just having a good time.  I yearn for that sometimes in my own life.  People are just too busy these days to enjoy each other.  This seems especially true in the Church.  People are always doing something Churchy, and can’t be bothered with just hanging out in a Circle of chairs, shooting the breeze, laughing a lot, and enjoying each other’s company.  But I think this is precisely what the Church needs to be doing more of.  Laughter, time, and enjoyment create bonds between people.  It builds trust and makes our times of working together much less stressful.  So let’s take the time, Dear Body of Christ, to just sit in a Circle of Chairs, facing one another, enjoying each other’s company and laughing a lot.  I could sure use this in my own life.  Maybe you could too.  In this time, we can spur one another on to Love and good deeds, as well as bonding in His Name.

23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:23-25)
