“It shall be established forever like the moon, And the witness in the sky is faithful.” Selah. (Psalm 89:37)
My heart is dragging this morning. I miss God very much. I’ve been through these times before, times where it seems I’ve misplaced God, or somehow lost Him. But He has not changed toward me, He has not moved, He is forever with me. Emotions can be fickle things, as can perceptions, and “senses.” But God is forever established as He who never changes.
33 “But I will not break off My lovingkindness from him, nor deal falsely in My faithfulness. 34 “My covenant I will not violate, nor will I alter the utterance of My lips. 35 “Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David. 36 “His descendants shall endure forever and his throne as the sun before Me. 37 “It shall be established forever like the moon, and the witness in the sky is faithful.” Selah. (Psalm 89)
God’s faithfulness is something that is so distinct from what we have experienced in humanity. Steadfastness, firmness, fidelity; these define the character of God’s faithfulness. Mercy, kindness, goodness; God’s lovingkindness is defined by these. I love how it says above, that God will not deal falsely in His faithfulness. The original Hebrew declares that God will not cheat, trick, lie to, or fail us. It declares that God will never be untrue to us.
Also the Glory of Israel will not lie or change His mind; for He is not a man that He should change His mind.” (1 Samuel 15:29)
How many times have we had people change their minds on us? How many times have I done this to another person? I have failed more times in this area than I care to think about. Sometimes I feel like I have a collar around my neck, and emotions are its leash. I am unsteady and changeable. I make mistakes so often, make messes that are hard to clean up. But God never does, He is forever faithful, something I just can’t relate to, but so desperately need. God says in the above Scripture, that His Covenant shall be established forever like the moon, and the witness is the sky is faithful. Pictured here in this post is a photo my son Cody took of the amazing moonrise last night. Just like a rainbow reminds us of God’s Promises, the Moon reminds us of His faithfulness. Some days I just want to crawl up into the lap of God and stay there. This is one of those days. Perhaps You are craving faithfulness, fidelity, steadiness, and trustworthiness. Perhaps a friend has failed you, a spouse cheated on you, a child lied to you. Perhaps the world has become a cold, unfriendly place, as it seems so often to be. Crawl up into the Lap of God’s Lovingkindness and Faithfulness. He is Forever Who He says He is. And we can find that rest, we so often lack here, where we are. We are hyper-vigilant, because of the world’s changeableness, never quite able to get our footing. Put Your feet down in God, Dear Ones. He is forever faithful to His Word to you.
