The Stability of our Times

And He will be the stability of your times, A wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge; The fear of the Lord is his treasure.  (Isaiah 33:6 NASB)

And so You are, Dear Lord, the stability of our times. Firmness, security, faithfulness; that is what the word “stability” means here in this verse.  Anybody need some of that?  In a world that feels like it is spinning out of control, with the insanity of senseless killings and violence; so random and unpredictable, stability is what we need.  This verse goes on further to say that God is a wealth of salvation, a wealth of wisdom, a wealth of knowledge.  We have all heard it said that “knowledge is power.”  But against the unpredictability within our world, knowledge really gives us no edge, not the kind of knowledge that the world offers.  We need God’s wisdom, God’s knowledge in order to overcome this world with all its fears and strife.  We need His knowledge in order to overcome the worry within our own hearts.  Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NASB) Take courage, indeed.  Only God can give us courage in the face of such worldly instability.  The fear of the Lord is his treasure.  The fear of the Lord is my treasure, your treasure, our treasure.  We need to revere and lift up the One and Only God of our lives, the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe.  He alone can make sense of the things that cause us fear and insecurity.  He alone can calm our fears.  He alone is the Stability of our Times.
