For no word from God will ever fail

34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”

35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.”

38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. (Luke 1 NIV)

No word from God will ever fail.  How comforting!  Have you ever had someone give you their word about something, and then fail to follow through?  Have you ever given your word, and then failed to keep that word?  I sure have, and it hurts to be on both ends of that stick.  But no word from God will ever fail.  He can be trusted to keep His promises to us.  We can always take God at His Word.  I love that about Him, about His Character.  This world seems ever shifting, like a continual earthquake.  Nothing feels settled here, nothing solid, no place to put my feet that is firm.  But I can plant my feet right down on the Promises of God and know they will never fail.  I need that!  We all need that!  Our hearts yearn for someone we can trust, someone we can always rely on!  God doesn’t always answer our prayers the way we want Him too, or in the timeframe we would like.  But no Word from God shall ever fail, so we can trust Him, no matter the outcome in this life.  His unchangeableness has made it possible for me to finally stop stressing over things, and find that elusive rest for me soul.  Praise to the God who spoke to Mary through the angel and encouraged her that God’s promise would be fulfilled.  And my we all learn to respond to God’s gracious call as Mary did so long ago, “I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.”
