Mental junk-food

So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:17=19 NASB)

Christ is what we need, more and more of!  Christ has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.  I have all I need to live a godly life already (2 Peter 1:3-4). The Holy Spirit leads me into all truth and calls God’s Word to remembrance, as I have need (John 14:26).  That is my “Spiritual nutrition.”  These are the nutrients, which I need daily, hourly even.  I can’t get that from the outside, I must have Him pour from within; truth, strength, peace, joy!  I can tell when I have had all kinds of “mental junk-food.” I have certain “signs,” that I haven’t been sitting alone with God enough, the biggest sign is just plain old, ugly FEAR>  An great acronym for fear is
F-alse
E-vidence
A-ppearing
R-eal

I have not been feeding my soul consistently lately.  I am hooked on an old TV drama, and I have been “binge-watching” too much.  Mental junk-food, not good.  God’s Word, and His presence; His Spirit and His Peace.., this is good.   It’s that simple.

Here’s a simple life example to give credence to what I am saying here. God can teach us a poignant truth through absolutely anything.  I had to chuckle this morning, as God gave me this encouraging Word through such a simple daily act.

I tend to use a leave-in conditioner, for my hair, to smooth out those rough edges. You get the picture? God spoke to me in that moment, of putting leave in conditioner in my hair and said, “Real nutrition comes from within!”  God’s Word is what I need, it’s what I need more than water to drink, or air to breathe.  He touched the heart of the matter for me, as He always lovingly does, by showing me I needed to give up the binge-watching, and spend them time in the Word with Him.  It’s just that simple.
