The people who walk in darkness will see a great light;
Those who live in a dark land, the light will shine on them.
(Isaiah 9:2)
I am a Christmas Junkie. But the Lights aren’t sparkling quite as bright this year for me. My heart is a bit heavy because of 2020’s battle with COVID 19. So much has changed for all of us. Some have lost precious loved ones. I never thought I’d see Church doors closed and locked in America, but I did this year. Rationing toilet paper and Cleaning products. At work we all look like bandits. Who’d have ever thought we’d care about whether our mask matched or clashed with our outfit? It’s been crazy.
I love all the Christmas Lights and I love to be walking thru the light displays. The Lights of Christmas remind me of Jesus, The Light of the world. He still is That light. I realized I am not looking for Christmas. I am looking for Christ, even as they were over two thousand years ago
For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
We just came through a grotesquely difficult election too. Our Country was so divided. I’m not reeling from the results, as some are. Because Jesus is still and always will be sitting on His Throne forever. Truly, The government rests on His shoulders. I am at Peace, because Our Prince of Peace is here, now, ruling and reigning over all.
The artificial lights of Christmas may be dimmed for me this year. But the true Light of Christmas is shining ever brighter against the Darkness experienced in 2020. Our Wonderful, Extraordinary Counselor is still in control. Our Mighty, All-Powerful Champion of Heaven is forever running His Victory lap. The Everlasting Father, Our Prince of Peace is Sovereign Lord over all. Reflect for a minute on that truth as you read over the following Hebrew meaning for Peace, in this text.
- completeness (in number)
- safety, soundness (in body)
- welfare, health, prosperity
- peace, quiet, tranquility, contentment
- peace, friendship, of human relationships, with God especially in covenant relationship
- peace (from war)

I picture myself, with The Body of Christ, singing to our reigning King. Worshipping the Word made flesh who came down to dwell among us. He is still bringing us His Gospel of Peace and Salvation to this lost and dying world we have all experienced in the Year 2020.
