As I was reflecting before the Lord this morning, He brought to my mind the following Scripture.
“So He said, “Go forth and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord was passing by! And a great and strong wind was rending the mountains and breaking in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a sound of a gentle blowing. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. And behold, a voice came to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” (1 Kings 19:11-13)
When we sit in silence with the Scriptures, we are taught by them. But sometimes there are walls we must break through as we sit with Him there. In the passage above, there was a great strong wind, rending the mountains and breaking the rocks in pieces. This wall can be our worries and distractions. We must sit through them and yield them to God.
The next wall was an earthquake, this can be distractions, The call of chores or things we think need to be done NOW. We must push through that temptation and wait still, continuing in the Lord.
The next wall is a fire, this can be a temptation, a lure to get up too soon and move on with our day. But wait through that fire and you will soon hear His still small voice. This is how I have learned to move from Fear into His perfect love. There is still far for me to grow, but His work is moving forward in my heart and He desires to move forward in yours as well, Dear Believer. Sit with Him and listen for His voice whispering to you.
As I was meditating on God’s Word this morning, I was listening to Quiet Piano music, with birds singing and gorgeous nature scenes going by on the Screen. Youtube is my go-to for quiet times. Sounds crazy, but there are so many godly channels on YouTube to help you meditate and sit with the Lord. One I use is Soakstream, another is Tim Janis. I also use Abide and Rivers in the Desert. These are fantastic tools God has created for us to help us meditate and sit with Him contentedly. I have fallen asleep to 8 hours of Scripture being spoken over me as I lay there.
These can create a sacred place, wherever we are. I encourage you, in this journey out of fear, to use these tools of meditation and sitting with the Lord. Yield your worries and cares, push through the desire to get up and Do, Do, Do. Resist the fires of temptation and wait on the Lord. You will hear His voice as you wait in His word for Him. More tomorrow. Have a Blessed Day.
What a powerful devotional! Thanks so much for sharing, and speaking about the channels on Youtube.
