Below is an interactive prayer I had with God this morning over a sin I needed to confess in my life. It is Psalm 51, prayed back to God as He leads me. Hope it blesses others who may be feeling weighed down by a sin today. Pray through it too, if you feel led of God to do so.
I felt so free and light after working through this with Him.
God is so Amazingly good and kind to us.
Be gracious to me, God, according to Your faithfulness;
According to the greatness of Your compassion,
wipe out my wrongdoings.
Wash me thoroughly from my guilt and cleanse me from my sin. (vs. 1-2)
Lord, I see here that Your forgiveness is pleaded according to two things: Your faithfulness and the greatness of Your compassion. It’s not about how sorrowful I am, or how many tears I cry. Your forgiveness is given because of who You are, not based on who I am. My confession and repentance are led by you and they are sincere and heartfelt, You see inside me and know my heart. But your forgiveness is not something I can earn with my tears. It is a free gift, and You give it to me based on Your faithfulness to Your promises and according to Your compassion. Thank You, God. I don’t have to try to deserve it, because I don’t. But I can trust You that I am now forgiven because of who You are.
For I know my wrongdoings, and my sin is constantly before me.
Against You, You only, I have sinned and done what is evil in Your sight,
So that You are justified when You speak and blameless when You judge. (vs. 3-4)
Lord, my sin is undeniable. But by Your grace, I do not wish to have it constantly before me, as David states here. Lord, I confess that my sin has been against You and You only. Yet the distance I feel from You is a consequence of my choices. You have not moved. I ask You to mercifully close that distance, Lord. Your Word tells me that if I draw near to You, You will draw near to me. Please Draw near to me God. I miss You so much.
Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being,
And in secret You will make wisdom known to me. (vs. 6-7)
Transparency, Lord, sitting before You with an open heart and soul. That is what You are calling me to this morning. Deliver me as I yield to You and help me to make better choices. Ultimately though, the choice is mine to make and I embrace that truth about myself. Help me not get stuck again or turn back to old patterns.
Purify me with hyssop, and I will be clean;
Cleanse me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness, Let the bones You have broken rejoice.
Hide Your face from my sins and wipe out all my guilty deeds. (vs. 7-9)
Lord, Your forgiveness is perfect, I am now whiter than snow. I am not partially cleansed. I am without Blemish because of You, Dear Jesus. These sins I just confessed are gone. You have cast them behind Your back and remember them no more. I AM CLEAN. Let me hear joy and gladness in my soul. Let my bones rejoice in Your forgiveness and grace, your compassion and mercy. Praise You, God for who You are and all You have done for us, Your children.
Create in me a clean heart, God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And sustain me with a willing spirit. (vs. 10-12)
I do feel fear sometimes, Lord, of being cast away because of my sins. But You promise that if anyone comes to You, Jesus, you will never cast them out (John 6:37). Thank You, Jesus, that You sustain me with a willing spirit. I am willing, Lord, and desire transformation of myself; of body, soul and spirit.
Then I will teach wrongdoers Your ways,
And sinners will be converted to You. (vs. 13)
Now that I have confessed, been cleansed and repented, I ask for the grace to share with others the mercy You are waiting to share with them, even as You have poured it out on me. I pray that many will come to You and find that You are so good, merciful and kind. I Praise You, Dearest Father.
Then my tongue will joyfully sing of Your righteousness.
Lord, open my lips, so that my mouth may declare Your praise. (vs. 14b-15)
May my mouth be opened in praise to You, Dear God, this morning. I will joyfully sing of Your righteousness, which You have so graciously poured out all over me this morning in this time of prayer. Praise be to You, My Holy God.
For You do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it;
You do not take pleasure in burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
A broken and a contrite heart, God, You will not despise.
Amen and Amen, Hallelujah for the Lord God Almighty reigns and accomplishes all His promises. All Praise be to the God of Second chances. May the Lord Bless your day.

Amen! Me too
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve found myself praying this Psalm… as horrific as Davids sin was, we would never have had this confessional yet comforting Psalm if he hadn’t sinned!
