Ride the Mighty Wind of the Spirit

BNH

By: Carole L. Haines

As a seed, I have lived what feels more like the life of a Wildflower than that of a cultured one. The winds of life have carried me in directions I would never have chosen for myself. Jesus speaks this to us,

“The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (John 3:8)

This is how my life has felt, but in reading this verse, that’s how it is meant to feel, guided and carried by a force greater than my own. When we think about seeds, they are helpless and dependent upon the right conditions to grow. Most need some sun-light, all need water and soil. I have seen beautiful flowers growing out of the most unusual places. I have seen flowers growing out of old tree stumps in the forest. I have spied them growing from cracks in the pavement. Wildflowers are some of the most resilient flowers of all, therefore I favor them so much. I spread wildflower seeds in my garden every year and wait to see what beauties I get. I then watch to see their resilient seeds regrow from places in the yard where the winds have blown them.

I imagine most of us feel like the winds of life have come and scattered our seeds in places we never dreamed we’d find ourselves. At first, I tried to harness the wind and steer it into my own directions, but now I am learning to ride the wind of the Holy Spirit and see my life as more of an adventure and ponder where He will carry me. Meanwhile I will bloom for now where I have landed, trusting God to bring forth much fruit as I sit before Him in His Word. Truly spoken are these words of Christ,
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” (John 12:24)

Ride the Mighty Wind of the Spirit, Beloved seeds of God. You will bear fruit wherever He takes you, just remain faithfully abiding in the Vine (John 15).

May God's Truth prevail and Love triumph, where we have failed. Amen
