Our Legacy, Our Children
Guest Post By: Christine Laporte
These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.” (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)
I once heard it preached from a pulpit of truth
That our children are our legacy as adults from their youth
When our legacy is threatened by hostility and fear
We, as their parents, draw close and keep them near
Surrounding our babies regardless of age
We strive to protect them from falsehood and rage
This can be a battle that we face everyday
Until forces unseen are kept forever at bay
But scary and disheartening as this reality becomes
I see panic and worry won’t make darkness run
Worry is just worry, the result is more stress
Yet God is a sure and faithful fortress
Our children want hope and peace in these storms
We are their model of Jesus as Lord
