22 While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.” (Genesis 8:22)
Many people tout the fragrance and taste of pumpkin spice this time of year, but I must say that I love other joys in the Autumn much more. The angle in which the sun rises and casts the shadows differently. The continual Autumn breezes as Summer gives way to the changing of the Seasons. Watching the leaves change as the temperatures cool in the still of the night. Misty fields and waterways as the waters remain warm but the air is chilling down. Walking through a shower of leaves carried by the wind in their final joy filled dance. I love it all. I love Hayrides, Corn Mazes, and pumpkin patches.
The changing of the Seasons is a privilege I have been able to enjoy most of my life because of living in the Mid-Atlantic states in the USA. Every Season is about 3 months long, bleeding into one another as they bow to each other in an unspoken dance of colors and temps. There are many things in nature that speak to me of God and His unfailing love and faithfulness. Oceans, mountains, fields of endless grain and corn. But nothing speaks louder to me than the changing of the Seasons. All of this is brought about by the angle at which the earth rotates on its Axis. Only a Sovereign God who is in control of everything could keep such an incredible balance of Natural power. The Sun, the Moon and stars, planets, galaxies and an ever-expanding universe. All shout of God’s unfailing love and faithfulness.
The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words,
whose voice is not heard.
4 Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them he has set a tent for the sun,
5 which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,
and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and its circuit to the end of them,
and there is nothing hidden from its heat. (Psalm 19)
My Mom started a tradition a long time ago, where we each try to catch a falling leaf before it hits the ground. It’s been a fun way to celebrate Fall and its Glorious Foliage. All of us tell Mom when we have caught our falling leaf. It’s so fun. God is so good to have reminders of His goodness surrounding us each day of our lives. Let’s praise Him for who He is and all He has done, is doing and will continue to do as He guides us through our lives and journeys with Him.
O Lord God Almighty, we delight in Your Seasons. We so enjoy all the nuances they bring as they speak to us of just how much we can trust in You and rest in Your care. Lord, I sense that our whole country, and even the world itself, is weary from the many things that have plagued it in the last few years. Thank You that you tell us that when we are weary and burdened down, we can turn to You for rest and life. (Matthew 11:28)
