Peace that passes understanding

by: Carole L. Haines

Aah water! Why am I so drawn to it. I long for it in its many forms. I love rivers and lakes, oceans and wetlands. I am constantly drawn to it wherever I roam. I love windy rains splashing against my window and meandering, almost racing down to puddle at the bottom. The delicate tinkling of icy branches bumping into each other in a Winter’s dance. Water represents peace for me more than any of the other elements. Someone once asked me, “Which of the four elements do you identify with the most, back then I said wind, because winds are so free. But now that I have lived many more years, I would say water, because water creates tranquility within the soul.

As we delve deeper into the freedoms purchased by Christ for us as He sacrificed Himself on that Cross, we have skimmed the mere surface of their realities in our New Born lives. We have looked at freedom from guilt, freedom from fear through God’s perfect love freedom from condemnation. Today we will look at His amazing peace that passed understanding.

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all people. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:4-7)

There are things God asks us to do, and things only He can do in this walk within the peace of God.

We are to rejoice in the Lord always

We are not to be anxious about anything

We are to pray about all things instead, making our requests know to God.

We are to give thanks to God

As we follow this pattern laid down for us by the Apostle Paul through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, only then will we experience the peace that surpasses all comprehension. When the rest of the world is freaking out, we can be sitting still, standing firm, resting in the arms of this Sovereign God we have come to trust with our whole life. Only God can bring about this peace that passes understanding within us; but He asks us to participate in His Work through rejoicing, not worrying, praying and thanking Him. Join in the work of God’s Spirit within the deepest recesses of your Spirit, Soul and Body. He is able to set you free from fear, worry and doubt. Let Him in to all those little nooks and crannies of fear, like water pouring through a sieve. Let Him cleanse you of all that holds you down in dread. Open your hands, dear believer, open your heart and let it all go. Be Blessed in Him this day.
