13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
(John 14:13)
In this day and age we live in, all of us are hard-pressed, as believers in Jesus Christ, to know how to respond to our culture. I now have precious people in my life who are living lifestyles that are not what I would agree with as God-pleasing. As I wrestled with this reality this morning in prayer, I received some great counsel from the Holy Spirit. “Be Jesus! Watch how Jesus interacts with those whom He encounters every day.” How does he interact with the Woman at the well in John 4? He speaks the truth in love. He engages her in conversation, telling her of God’s Kingdom come. He reveals Himself to her as the Messiah. Please take a moment to read this encounter in John Chapter 4.
13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
(John 14:13)
What I see in Jesus, in this encounter, is a desire to share Himself with this woman, to give her life, to give her hope for her now, her past and her future. He created in her a thirst for Himself. I believe that is what we are called to do. Pray for God to create a thirst for Him in our loved ones and to encourage them with His truth. I can’t be the Holy Spirit, who is the one who can reveal all to them, but I can be His instrument to bring the love and kindness of Christ to those I love who have gone astray.
39 Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. 41 And because of his words many more became believers. (John 4:39-40)
Jesus met her right where she was, in the lifestyle she was living and loved her into the kingdom by speaking truth to her and revealing Himself to her. God spoke to my heart this morning, as I go out into the world to meet all people. “Keep it simple, Carole, Be Jesus to them!” Amen to that!!!
