Reflections on windows

Carole L. Haines

For You light my lamp;
The Lord my God illumines my darkness.
(Psalm 18:28)

The night had passed, morning was breaking before me. I could see through the curtains a marvelous light. An entire hotel glowed as if on fire. The sheer curtains obscured my view and gave the whole place an enticing aura. I had to rise from my bed and go and see this sight. Each window filled with a golden, sparkling light. I thought at first the hotel had every light lit within every room, at its brightest level. But then I realized I was seeing the sunrise, reflecting off the transparent glass of every window. I couldn’t see the actual sunrise, but there it was reflecting in the western view of this hotel across the street. I gazed for what seemed a long time but was actually mere minutes. Just as suddenly as this beautiful sight appeared, it was gone, no more reflection, just plain windows once again.

We are these windows in the House of God. We are these reflective surfaces, and our lights shine so brightly, but for what seems so short a time. The mother of a dear friend has passed out of this world and into the next, now dancing with Jesus, and those who have gone before her, upon the streets of Gold in Heaven. All her pain is gone, and she has no more sorrow. But those whom she has left behind shall miss her greatly. Her laughter, her smile, her kind words, her wisdom. She has left a legacy of greatness behind her in her children. May they keep her always in their hearts, aglow, as these windows once were, reflecting the glory of God.

For You light my lamp;
The Lord my God illumines my darkness. (Psalm 18:28)

May we too, glow for Jesus, shine forth His glory for all to see while we live out our lives, short as they may seem, upon this earth. We will no longer see you here, dear lady; but all who trust in Jesus as their Savior and their Lord, will soon join you in the dance within the sunrise glow of heaven.
