With Incorruptible love

By: Carole L. Haines

24 Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ with incorruptible love. (Ephesians 6:24)

Purity, sincerity, genuineness, who wouldn’t want to be loved like that? This is what incorruptible love means. To love purely, sincerely and genuinely. Yes, I’d take that for sure. But isn’t this the kind of love that God has for us? I mean, are we even capable of loving Him back this way? The meaning for the word grace in this verse is, “graciousness- the divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life; including gratitude.” (Strong’s via Blue Letter Bible)

And the word for love in this verse is agape:

In the scriptures, the love that Jesus talks about and refers to is agape love. The term agape refers to unconditional love. For Christians this is the highest type of love, and it is the love that Jesus has for humans. Agape involves feeling so much love for someone that you put them before yourself. (Bitesize)

Another way we could say this verse may be,

“May God’s divine influence upon your hearts, and its reflection in your life, create a gratitude within all those who love Jesus so much that they always put Him before themselves.”

Yes! Jesus, I want to grow to have love for You like that. I want to learn to put you before myself. I desire for my love to grow in purity, sincerity and genuineness. I feel like I have a slow leak and am growing limp in my love for You. Holy Spirit, please infuse me with a deeper love for Jesus than I have ever had before. I can’t conjure this, Lord. I need You to do this in me. Amen! Thank You, Lord!

  1. Great post, Carole. The first thing I thought of when reading through your post is how fortunate we as God’s children are to have the Holy Spirit living within us. His presence enables us to love like God and, of course, it’s a lifetime process. Thanks for sharing!
