I was reading this morning and was led to these verses:
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”
The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.
It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord…
(Lamentations 3:25-26,28 ESV)
Having the morning free, I sensed that I should sit alone here in silence before the Lord. Just listening, watching and waiting. I observed the wind moving gently through the leaves outside as I sat here and was blessed by the peacefulness of it. There were such gentle breezes, moving only small parts of the trees, a few branches here and there, sometimes only a few leaves. It reminded me of Jesus words in the Gospel of John.
The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (John 3:8)
It made me realize that I am merely a small branch in God’s vast and endless forest, but when He calls me to be still, I am still. He chooses when to blow through the leaves on my branch, creating movement and joy. The times of stillness and listening are just as needed and precious as the times of movement and work. It is all determined by God’s perfect plan and movement. God is always at work in and through us. Even when we are unaware of His gentle work, and even when we feel it greatly, His work in us in ongoing. At times it’s is as quiet as a breeze and other times it can feel as raucous as a hurricane. Either way, God can be trusted to move in our lives as we rest upon His winds.
“The wind blows to the south and goes around to the north; around and around goes the wind, and on its circuits the wind returns.”
(Ecclesiastes 1:6)
Let’s rest in the joy of riding the winds of God.
