A smoldering wick He will not quench

There are days when we just feel like we can’t take any more, times when our entire beings cry out, “Enough is Enough!”  This day ended like that.  We do the best we can, for as long as we will hold out, but then we run out, we run down, we come to the end of ourselves.  It is in these moments that we are most tempted to despise ourselves for being so weak.  But God tells us that when we are weak, we are strong.  He tells us that, “His power is perfected in weakness.”

What a strange and daunting concept.  Our society seems to despise weakness, and yet the world is full of it.  I don’t want to be like the world.  I don’t want to step on whoever I need to in a feverish climb for the top.  I am Okay with being imperfect, with being flawed and weak.  I know that I am these things and I embrace them.  This is only possible because of knowing whose embrace I am held within.  I am held by the God who never gives up on us, or others.  I am loved by the God who never comes to an end to Himself.  Even when my patience has run out, when I’ve put up with all that I can, God will take over and never give up, never run out on me or that other person.  “A bruised reed God will not break, a smoldering wick He will not quench; in faithfulness God will bring forth justice.”  (Isaiah 42:3)

When we don’t know what we should do, or what is best; when we have come to the end of ourselves, or our ability to endure and go on; we come to God.  We give these things to God.  We trust God and He takes what we have let go of and works all of it together for our good, the good of the others involved, and for His Glory.  Rest in Him who never sleeps, rest in God
