The Champion of my soul

Exodus 19: 1-6

In the third month after the sons of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on that very day they came into the wilderness of Sinai. 2 When they set out from Rephidim, they came to the wilderness of Sinai and camped in the wilderness; and there Israel camped in front of the mountain. 3 Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob and tell the sons of Israel: 4 ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself. 5 Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; 6 and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”

O how precious is the love of God, and how sweet is His affection for His own.  God gives one of the most beautiful pictures of his heart in this passage of Scripture, “ and how I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself.”

Are there any “Lord of the Rings” fans out there reading this?  Well, you’ve got one here, big time.  There are so many spiritual truths depicted in those movies, whether it was the intention of the writer, or producer, only God knows, but they are there.  One of my favorite scenes is found when Gandalf has just had a fierce fight with Saruman, the traitor, and is banished to the highest tower.  Gandalf whispers his plight to a wandering moth, who goes and tells the leader of the Eagles.  The eagle comes and Gandalf steps off the tower and onto the Eagle’s back and is borne away to safety and freedom.  That is what I see when I read this passage.  God rescueing us and carrying us on Eagle’s wings to safety.

GANDALF OVER GWAIHIR by

God has rescued me in a time of great trial.  But as I look back over my life, I can see where He has rescued me many times, from even mortal danger,  a few times.  I am a “God-junkie,” because He has always, always, always been there for me, even when I couldn’t see Him at work, He was working.  I love you, God, and thank you, precious King, for your many rescues.  I wrote a song, many years ago.  It was the lead song for my first ( and only), music CD.  Here are the words…Hope you enjoy them.

The Champion of my Soul

by : carole l. haines

Somehow, tonite, the darkness seems, so much darker than it ever has to me before

I need the piercing light of God, to shine upon my soul, Lord come and make me whole.

I’m not ashamed to tell You, Lord, I am a damsel in distress.

I’m trapped in this tower of sin and wretchedness.

I need someone to break these chains, throw open the prison doors and lead me home.

So, My Lord, put on Your Royal robes, My God and King,

and let me see You mount Your might steed

and come rescue me, My Knight in Shining armor,

Lord You are the Champion of my Soul.

Every child is born looking for a hero, and every little girl wants a prince to wed

every little boy wants to slay the Dragon, and bring home his head.

Well, Lord, You are this dream come true, You are my Hero,

You are my Shining Prince and You have set me free.

You have slain the Dragon, thrown open the prison doors, and You will lead me home.

So, My Lord, put on Your Royal robes, My God and King,

and let me see You mount Your might steed

and come rescue me, My Knight in Shining armor,

Lord You are the Champion of my Soul.

  1. AMEN— had an opportunity at lunch time to share with a lady whose husband just got involved with JWs about our life and God’s faithfulness. Her husband has been involved for several months. When I told her about our 20 years, she said – I could never to that. I told her I couldn’t but that God meant it for good and brought me and my children to him – as well as my husband. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME.

Since I am here by myself, think I will take a bath and watch Lord of the rings tonight. My flight leaves 3 pm tomorrow but I will be picked up here at 10:30 am to go to airport. Blessings, Love, Mom
