His Blood be on us.

Matthew 27:24-25

24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.”

These were wiling to be guilty of the blood of Jesus, guilty of putting Him to death.  They called their innocent children into their own sin.  And yet, we are really all guilty of putting Jesus on that cross, aren’t we?  We are all responsible for His death.  These people get the blame a lot, but we are all guilty before our Holy God.

“For all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God…and the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  (Book of Romans)

I find it amazing that they actually used the word, “His blood be upon us,” because that is exactly what needs for happen to each of us, in order to be saved.  One of the most amazing books of the Bible is the Book of Hebrews.  It describes in detail, just how perfectly Jesus fulfilled all of the requirements of the Law in order to purchase our freedom from sin.

Hebrews 9:11-13 11 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; 12 and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

I’ve heard of churches that don’t want to mention “the blood of Christ” anymore.  Too shocking, too messy.  But here is what God says about it,

Hebrews 10:29

29 How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?

As believers, we must never be ashamed to talk about the Blood of Christ,  it cost Him so much suffering to pour it out on the Mercy Seat of God in Heaven.  We are saved because of His Great sacrifice.  So let us cry out in a precious, grateful and humble voice.

Lord Jesus, Your blood be on us, for we need You, dear Lord, we need to be cleansed by the sacrifice you made for us, by the shedding of your blood, once for all who would believe.

I believe, Lord Jesus, and I thank You for the precious gift of Your blood poured out for me, for us, for all who will look to You and cry out for mercy.

Amen and Amen
