Hosea 6:3
3 “So let us know, let us press on to know the Lord.
His going forth is as certain as the dawn;
And He will come to us like the rain,
Like the spring rain watering the earth.”
And there he is again, every morning, faithfully singing outside my window. He heralds the dawn for me. He heralds the Advent of Spring. I have not heard his precious little song for many a long month in Winter. But here he is singing his heart out with joy. I have never seen the bird that sings this song, which causes hope to rise up so profusely in my spirit. “Spring is coming, Spring is coming!” He always sings in the dark, so I cannot see him, but I sure know his song.
It is like that with knowing God. He is so faithful, so compassionate and kind. Yet there are winter’s in our own lives where we feel we cannot hear His song, His precious voice. But He is there, He is coming to us, when our Winter is past: our time of testing, of sorrow, of disappointment. God’s Word tells us that His song is with us in the Night.
Deep calls to deep at the sound of Your waterfalls;
All Your breakers and Your waves have rolled over me.
8 The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime;
And His song will be with me in the night,
A prayer to the God of my life. (Psalm 42:7-8)
The greatest delight of life is knowing God. I know that so many of you know this already, but I just feel so filled up with the joy of knowing Him this morning. God, the Living God; the same God who made the world in all its uniqueness, this same God want a relationship with Doesn’t that just blow your mind. I mean, with all He has to do, He wants to spend it with each of us, all of us. I am reminded of God’s faithfulness, care and love in so many ways each day.
“So let us know, let us press on to know the Lord.
Knowing God takes time, lots of time. We need to set aside lots of time in the Word, sitting before Him; listening, just listening as He speaks to us from His Word.
His going forth is as certain as the dawn;
He can be trusted, He is here with us, more real and more certain than anything we see with our Physical eyes. Our physical eyes fail us, but God illumines our darkness with the Glory of His light, His love, His life.
And He will come to us like the rain,
Like the spring rain watering the earth.”
So sing to me, my little herald bird. Sing to me outside my window. Remind me of the faithfulness of My Creator, and yours. And thank You, My Creator God, for singing Your songs over me in the dark times, the night times, of my life. Amen
