Psalm 16
16 Preserve me, O God, for I take refuge in You.
2 I said to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
I have no good besides You.”
There comes a time in all of our lives, when we must choose what voice we will listen to, what God we will follow, what faith we will have. For some of us, it happens early on in life, for others, they are a bit older, but we all will decide. Even deciding not to decide is a decision. I love how this psalm says, “I said to THE Lord, “You are MY Lord;” He came to place where his faith was no longer the faith of his fathers, but he had made it his own. He had decided that THE LORD was going to be the voice that He listened to.
3 As for the saints who are in the earth,
They are the majestic ones in whom is all my delight.
4 The sorrows of those who have bartered for another god will be multiplied;
I shall not pour out their drink offerings of blood,
Nor will I take their names upon my lips
When we have decided to make THE LORD, MY LORD, often it is because we have found that nothing else can even begin to fill us but God Himself. We were created with huge voids in our hearts that only God can fill. We come to desire, more than any other thing, to be in a relationship with God. I find myself growing Lonelier by the moment, if I only interact with people. I must interact with the Maker of my Soul, and so we walk on with each other, in the Body of Christ. We walk on with the Majestic ones, His people. We have found the treasure for which our heart has yearned and we leave all else to be with Him.
5 The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup;
You support my lot.
6 The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;
Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.
O the precious in heritance that falls to all who trust God for all of their lives. It is a joy indeed to walk with Him always and evermore. His boundary lines have fallen to me in pleasant places indeed. I am no longer testing fences, trying to find a way out. I am truly content to be grazing in the field of My Good Shepherd.
7 I will bless the Lord who has counseled me;
Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night.
8 I have set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
9 Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will dwell securely.
10 For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol;
Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.
11 You will make known to me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.
I am well contented to just sit here with You, God. To rise when you bid me, to go where You send me, to speak the word that You give me, and to come home to You when it is time. I love you, Dearest God and King. Thank you, for O so Loving me. I have journeyed with you long, Lord, and journeyed with You hard; and I can truly say that Through it all, You are forever faithful and good.
