Put On the New Self
3 Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 [a]Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. 3 For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.
Here is a quote from the book I am re-reading at this time: A Long Obedience in the same direction, by Eugene Peterson.
“Rescue me from the person who tells me of life and omits Christ, who is wise in the ways of the world but ignores the movement of the Spirit. The lies are impeccably factual. They contain no errors. There are no distortions or falsified data. But they are lies all the same because they claim to tell us who we are and omit everything about our origin in God and our Destiny in God. They talk about the world without telling us that God made it. They tell us about our bodies without telling us that they are temples of the Holy Spirit. They instruct us in love without telling us about the God who loves us and gave Himself for us.” (pg 27-28)
Beloved Believer, listen to no one else but Christ alone. He is the only voice you need to hear. Train your ears to listen closely, to block out all the other clamoring voices, vying for your attention. As Jesus said in John 10,
11 “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. 12 He who is a hired hand, and not a shepherd, who is not the owner of the sheep, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13 He flees because he is a hired hand and is not concerned about the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, 15 even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.
Train us to hear You only, Dearest God and King. O Precious Shepherd of our Souls, of our Hearts; rain us to discern your voice clearly above the noise of the world. Guide us to choose to run to solitude with You alone and listen in Silence, through Your Word to Your voice and Yours alone. We will never stand before another in eternity; let us choose to stand before You now, alone on this earth and in this world. We love You Dearest God, Holy Spirit, teach us to love You better, to love You more and more…Amen and Amen
