Psalm 42:8 The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime;
And His song will be with me in the night,
A prayer to the God of my life.
I was given a truly precious snapshot of what the verse, “I will never leave you, nor forsake you,” really means, today at my job. I am an assistant in the Infant/Toddler room at a Christian Childcare center. We have had a recent influx of young ones under four months of age. As you can imagine, it’s a big adjustment both for the parent and the child. It’s hard for the infants to relax enough to nap properly. So yesterday we tried something new. I had three babies in the Nap room, one was sleeping soundly, but two were restless. I pulled the cribs together with me in a rocking chair between them. I would stroke their little heads until they fell asleep. But they would jolt awake and start to cry. I would gently stroke their heads and smile at them and they would fall back asleep. This went back and forth between the two restless babies until finally, they both realized that I was here for them, so they could relax enough to sleep. God kept whispering to me, through this whole process, that this is just a tiny picture of how present He really is in our lives. This is a small snapshot of how, “I will never leave you nor forsake you,” is fleshed out in our own lives. It was a Precious moment of Enlightening for me, a picture I will carry with me always from now on. We are that child in need of reassurance, the need to know that God is literally with us always. He is there continually calming us, assuring us of His presence and Sovereign control over our lives.
In this world of chaos and confusion, fear and uncertainty; it is so needful for us to know we have a God that loves us this intimately.

God tells us that He will never leave us nor forsake us, and His Word is as trustworthy as His name. People come and go in our lives, life is so unsettling at times. But God’s foreverness, His promises to be with us every time this world “jolts us” awake by its harsh realities; these are our comfort, our peace.
Rest in the One whose song is with You in the night, whose lovingkindness carries us each and every Day.
