3This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time. (1 Timothy 2)
God’s Word is so profusely packed with encouraging truth. I looked up this verse for one reason, but found such precious truths packed into these four little verses. In these verses we find the precious desire of God for all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. This sets to rest, the argument as to whether some people are never meant to be saved at all. God desires for all men to be saved…period, End of Story.
We also discover the declaration that there is only One God and only One mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ. There are not many ways to God, there are not many Mediators between God and man. God is the Only God, and Jesus is His Only Mediator…Period, End of Story.
Jesus gave Himself, he did not have his life taken from Him. The Gospel of John clearly states: 17 For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again. 18 No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father.” (John 10)
So Jesus gave His life willingly for us, freely, no strings. There was never a point during the whole life, betrayal, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus; that He, Himself, was not in control of it all. He gave Himself over as a ransom for us all. Period…End of Story.
The reason for which I looked up this verse in the Concordance, will have to wait for another time, another day, another post. God had something else wonderful in His Word to show me today. I have shared this with you. May you be blessed by it as I have been. Jesus is the Final Word. His faithfulness is just the beginning of Our Story, as we trust in Him.
this is so appropriate for me for today – my spiritual birthday— 5-19-75 sitting or really kneeling next to the green “electric” chair in the living room of Mardrew Road and praying His Word to receive Him. It is just in the past few years though that I have come to realize the significance of “IT IS FINISHED”. PRAISE THE LORD FOR hIS MERCY TO ME AND ALL MY FAMILY., blessings, mom
