God Alone

Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from Him

He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress,

I shall not be greatly shaken.

My salvation and my honor depend on God;

He is my mighty rock, my refuge.

Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to Him,

For God is our refuge.  (Psalm 62:5-8 )

There are times in our lives when we are brought into a place of isolation. But God walks us into these places. I am in one of those times right now. It’s an in between time. My past occupation has ended, I know God has led me out from there. I just don’t where I am going now. In this in-between time, I am alone at home and it’s a bit scary. But God spoke to me from the above passage this morning. He switched a word for me and whispered to my spirit. “Find rest alone in God, Carole. Don’t be afraid to be alone. I am here with You all the time.”

 God often pulls out the action words so that I can know what He is doing, and what I am to do, based on the Scripture I am studying. It helps to not step into God’s shoes and do what only He can. Phrases like, “Find rest, to be silent and still, to wait, to quiet myself; these began to grab my attention.

He alone is my Rock, my Hope. There is no other, and there must be no other thing I place my hope in. God is tearing down the things I still cling to for security. He is my Fortress, My stronghold. I run to His Word and find my shelter there from the lies of the world.

I shall not be shaken. God will not let me be carried away, moved or overthrown. I can rest in Him, my fortress of defense, my shelter and hiding place. I can lean deeply into him and He will not let me fall.

My salvation and my honor depend on God. God claims to have not just my salvation covered here, but my honor as well. When people come against us, misunderstand us, or judge us; God is our refuge. Our honor depends on Him. He will bring the truth to light in these situations.

The above are all singular phrases, focused on the individual. Now David turns his attention to encouraging others with what He has come to know about God and His Character.

Trust in Him at all times, O people. No matter what is going on and how confusing or even scary it may seem. Trust in Him; rest, lean back into God. He is the only one with the power to affect change in us and in the situations we face each day.

Pour out your hearts to Him. Too often I turn to others to lift me up first. But I need to pour out my heart to Him. He alone is my refuge and strength. I don’t need to be afraid of being alone, because He is right here with me in this time of isolation into which He has led me.  He is with You too, Dear Believer. Find your rest and solace in Him alone. He is here in the waiting, here in the silence, here in the unknown.

  1. Thank you for your bold insight and willingness to be vulnerable. My experience has always been when I’m willing to take action, HE always leads my footsteps in the direction that I need to be going…even if I don’t see the road clearly.
