The Stability of our times

A guest post By: Debbie Yohn

And He will be the stability of your times,
A wealth of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge;
The fear of the Lord is his treasure.
(Isaiah 33:6)

Getting a diagnosis of cancer changes so much about your life, this is a very emotional journey.  Suddenly you are seen as a Cancer patient, and it is all about “How are you feeling and how is care going?” Rather than the normal “Hellos or How is the family?”

I have always marveled at patients with chronic conditions because they handle the questions of strangers so well. For me, I just want to be myself; a wife, mom, grandmother, and friend. Not riding the medical roller-coaster of cancer treatment and preconceived labels.

Another big one is your protected health information; this was a huge issue for me this week. Suddenly the questions become very personal information. Having a breast cancer diagnosis, is almost like an invitation to ask personal information that most of the people asking do not need to know.

How do I make normal out of all the turbulent mess going around in my head while trying to maintain a positive healing attitude?

For me it is found in Galatians 4:6 “Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out ‘Abba Father.’” This transformed my thinking/

We have a little piece of Jesus in our hearts. Think about that, I believe his spirit lives in my heart and that is Powerful! Maybe that looks different to you, but it led to my mantra of healing. Here is what I say when I worship in the morning or in those moments of overwhelming anxiety.

“I am the temple of the Holy Spirt” My temple belongs to Jesus and was knit together by Him, and cancer is not HIS creation. Jesus lives in my heart and HIS light shines through me for all to see. As this light shines it kills cancer and restores my mind, body, and soul. Therefore, cancer has no hold on me, and I cast it out in the name of Jesus.  Lord Let your light shine through me destroying cancer and making my body work as you designed it to. May others see YOU through me. Amen

This changes a little each day as He grows me up in this journey, but the basic visualization of the words remains the same.
There is much power to be found in faith, not in self but in Abba Father. My spirit cries out many times a week when I have no words for the feelings that just come forward. I am glad that one thing remains the same, a little piece of Jesus, in the person of the Holy Spirit lives in me, and He holds me.

And He will be the stability of your times,
A wealth of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge;
The fear of the Lord is his treasure. (Isaiah 33:6)
