Often, when I am working, I am up moving about, sitting down occasionally to fold clothes or rest and catch my breath before getting up and continuing. It was the same for the High priests who entered the Holy of Holies to offer sacrifices. I found no pictures of the inside of the Holy of Holies that had a seat. All duties were performed while standing. Yet Jesus, When He had finished His work on the cross, sat down.
3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
(Hebrews 1:3 NIV)
Jesus said on the cross “It is finished!” Then He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. (John 19:30) His perfect work was complete. Salvation’s door was thrown open for us in that moment. One of the most telling signs of this open door occurred in the Temple.
And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
(Mark 15:38)
From top to bottom, from heaven to earth; Jesus made the only way from heaven to earth, a rift in the eternities of all who would believe in Him. And having done all, Jesus sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in Heaven. Why was He already in Heaven? (See Hebrews 9:11-15)
Because He had just poured out His own blood upon the mercy seat of the true tabernacle in heaven.
And then He sat down, the Lamb who way slain. Jesus now appeared at the “consummation of the ages,” to offer Himself once for all. O Hallelujah! for the Lord God Almighty reigns. (Hebrews 9:26)
Because Jesus sat down, we can now stand before God, blameless; clothed in the righteousness of Christ.
Indeed, MERRY CHRISTMAS, and many Happy New Years’s because Jesus has made all things NEW.
16 Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You.
Let those who love Your salvation say continually,
“The Lord be magnified!”
17 Since I am afflicted and needy,
Let the Lord be mindful of me.
You are my help and my deliverer.
Do not delay, O my God. (Psalm 40)
