To dwell in the safety of his promises
Psalm 105
Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the peoples.
2 Sing to Him, sing praises to Him;
Speak of all His wonders.
3 Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the Lord be glad.
4 Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face continually.
5 Remember His wonders which He has done,
His marvels and the judgments uttered by His mouth
6 O seed of Abraham His servant, O sons of Jacob, His chosen ones!
7 He is the Lord our God;
His judgments are in all the earth.
Romans 4
, ,16 For this reason it is by faith, in order that it may be in accordance with grace, so that the promise will be guaranteed to all the descendants, not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, 17 (as it is written, “A father of many nations have I made you”)
This is one of the most marvelous truths in all of Scripture. God has grafted us into the Promise of His chosen people, Israel. Jesus came to reach the Jews as well as those of us who would come to faith in Him outside of the Jewish faith. So precious and kind is the love of God, extended to all who will receive it, who will trust in His provision of a Savior.
Romans 5
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God.
God is a God of Covenant Promise. He keeps His Word. He can be trusted to do all He says He will do. In this world of deception and broken promises, that is better than any treasure we could ever find. He is called our Anchor of Hope, Our Resting Place, Our Living Water. God can only be all these things because He is as good as His Word, and His Word is as good as Him. We can rest and find peace in the God of all comfort, the God who so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.
What a beautiful, marvelous and mysterious God we serve. His love is beyond measure, His faithfulness beyond our ability to comprehend. I woke up worried this morning about some things going on right now in my life, and this was His answer to my cry for a Word of Hope. O Marvelous God, I will both lie down and sleep in peace, Because You and You alone do make me to dwell in the safety of Your promises.
