I have no good besides You

Preserve me, O God, for I take refuge in You. ² I said to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good besides You.” (Psalm 16 NASB)

I laid open my heart before the Lord this morning and confessed having let my first-love slip away.  I have pursued other things, good things, but definitely other things.  I asked Him to please speak to me from His Word this morning, and restore me to a closer walk with Him once more.  Bible Gateway’s Daily readings always blesses me, and the words above were the first words I read after praying that prayer.  You are my Lord and I have no good besides You.  Well that nailed it, I have replaced My First Love for God with other things, some good no doubt, but still, they are other things.  I have far too many of these  things in my life lately, and they have crowded out the Only One who really matters, God.

Dearest Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, please forgive me for letting You slip away, while I held on to things that are fading
I have traded the precious and eternal, for mere trinkets.
Even things of Your Kingdom cannot be held in higher esteem than the King Himself.
I have done this Dear Father, and I have held on to pointless grudges.
I have been angry because of the cruelty of people in this world,
distressed by the instability of our culture and country.
Father, I cry out to You in the very words of David:
⁵ The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You support my lot. ⁶ The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.

⁷ I will bless the Lord who has counseled me; Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night. ⁸ I have set the Lord continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. ⁹ Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will dwell securely. (Psalm 16 NASB)
Lord, forgive my lack of thankfulness. Forgive me for taking You for granted.  By Your grace, I will continually set You before me.  Then I will not be so shaken by the terrible events in this world.  And you will bring joy to my heart, and gladness to my soul.  I can always dwell securely, no matter what the world does.  I thank You, Dearest Father, for the Reality of Christ, The joy of being Yours and the Power of Christ’s Resurrection in me.  Holy Spirit, wash afresh over me, in me and through me.  Amen and Amen.
